A few highlights from NAFS19

  • … and they definitely delivered. In fact, our heads were hurting by the end of the event, though perhaps not entirely due to the information packed agenda.

I get two product complaints out of Texas, and two out of Florida. That same date code could have gone to both of them, so at night the system puts them all together and says ‘I have a problem with this date code’.  it pulls all that information together and these are the kinds of reports we’re able to get.

For those of you who couldn’t make it this year we’ve included a few highlights from the event, but if you’re keen for a full rundown, drop us a note and we’ll be happy to fill you in on everything we saw and learned over the couple of days.

 

  • The big highlight for us was our joint workshop session presented by our very own Jim Hardeman, EVP Product Management, together with David Abney, VP of Quality Assurance, Sonic Drive-In. Their session showed how Sonic Drive-In has taken the “crisis out of crisis management” by leveraging CMX’s Incident Management and Recalls. It was presented to a packed house – so much so, the organizers had to bring in more chairs – way to go guys!   • Did you know General Mills invested 14.4 million USD in food safety in fiscal 2018, which was equal to 7.6 percent of the total capital investment for the year? They run an enterprise audit program that leverages third party and internal audits and take a ‘Pre-competitive approach’, working to share best practices globally, as part of their commitment in driving improvement across the industry – as it’s to the benefit of everyone.

  • Interestingly, GM also supports over 400 trained quality professionals on their Food Safety team, and they will audit 100 percent of their global facilities using internal auditors and/or third parties this year.
  • Mondelez also shared insights into their inner workings around food safety, including a detailed slide explaining their quality processes to drive growth across the value chain.
